Candy Cane Cocoa

The year-end holidays may be over but winter is just beginning.  There is plenty of time for cold weather activities such as ice skating, sledding, snowman making and fort building, as well as shoveling and snow blowing.  Whether you are the one to venture out or the one who likes to watch from the window between puzzles, books and baking, here is a quick, easy and delicious recipe to keep your heart warm and glad until the spring.

Candy Cane Cocoa

4 cups milk, whatever kind you prefer

3, 1 ounce squares semisweet chocolate, chopped

(I didn’t have squares so I used 6 Tablespoons mini-semisweet chocolate chips.)

4 large peppermint candy canes, crushed

Garnish:

1 cup whipped cream

4 peppermint candy canes, small or large

In a saucepan, heat up the milk until it is hot, but not quite boiling.

Whisk in the chocolate, as well as the crushed peppermint candy canes, until the mixture is smooth.

Pour the hot cocoa into four mugs and add some whipped cream on top for garnish.

Serve with a candy cane stirring stick for each.

That’s cozy in cup!
